Luimo research topics extend from pure experimentation to clinics. The principal lines of investigation are:
Pure experimentation on healthy subject (provings)
 The biopathographic protocol
 Materia Medica
Pedagogy in the Homeopathic medicine teaching
 The LUIMO Research programme

A . The programme of re-experimentation

It is realised with the help and contribution of Luimo students during the academic year: double and triple blind proving with ultramolecular homeopathic remedies.

Aims: to confirm ancient trials and promote the auto-observation of students.

The experimentation are realised twice a year starting from a dedicated week-end stage.

B . National and international experimentation

Since 1980 has promoted national and transnational experimentations, trough the creation of a pure experimentation protocol.

Since 2003 LUIMO has realised a web site  ( where will be possible for each experimenter in every part of the world to connect and write its own auto-observation and experimentation, in a way to create an unique database of pure observations, immediately available for analysis.

C . Ethics and pure experimentation

Every kind of experimentation on humans normally requires the authorisation by an ethical committee able to decide about the ethical validity of the experiment. In Europe it does not exist any law giving access to pure experimentation, with the exception of single individual hospitals Ethical committees. LUIMO has decided to afford the problem by demonstrating the importance of pure experimentation. LUIMO has organised an internal ethical committee and has shown the results of the research during a seminar given at the Order of physicians in Naples.

D. Clinical confirmation of pure experimental symptoms.

Clinical documentation realised at LUIMO is systematically analysed to confirm the experimental pure symptoms trough retrospective analysis. At present date are under study more than 7000 clinical cases followed at LUIMO.

Homeopathic medicine demands a specific and profound teaching to allow physicians to act at his/her best. For these reasons LUIMO realised deep pedagogic researches to permit to the student to understand and document completely the ill person state.
These pedagogic research lines are:

A. A better understanding of auto-observation, as the tool to understand empathically the patient.

B. A computer based clinical-biopathographic protocol, as a tool to document and revision the physician activity.

This project is still ongoing. The aim is to transfer in informatics tools the paper-based biopathographic protocol.
This protocol will be associated with a reasoned Homeopathic Materia Medica web based.

C. Web based reasoned Homeopathic Materia Medica

In collaboration with ALMA srl LUIMO has starter a prototype of reasoned Materia Medica based on web tools. To the Materia Medica is associated a tool based on the similia principle viewed from a linguistic point of view.  At the present day the Dbase disposes of million words.

D. Compendium of key symptoms

Medical/scientific languages have many words showing specific meanings (metalanguage) understandable only by field specialists. In contrast to metalanguages, pure and clinical Materias Medicas (MMs) are mostly written in prover/patient natural language. Complaintscontained in are archetypical, repetitive and comparative (as if, like this), easy to understand by everybody trough centuries.

In Homeopathy a major attempt to realise a metalanguage came, perhaps unconsciously, from J.T. Kent who tried to synthesize MMs large amount of data, extracting single words or truncated phrases into a Repertory (R).

Due to the MMs above mentioned nature, R however could not built a referenced homeopathic metalanguage, and contains a mix of natural and “medical/scientific” language. This mix can be hardly upgraded during time due to the difficult semantic work necessary to compare XVIII to XXI century terms, will they be clinical, technical, “medical slang” or truncated expressions .

This linguistic mix can strongly complexify everybody’s comprehension level for teaching, learning and cure, easily leading to misunderstanding symptoms and therefore patients.

Concrete symptoms comprehension has to come from natural and synthetic (MM and R) language comparison. In natural language, prosody strongly increases comprehension of facts, so that “as much you can say about a fact, as much everybody understand the same”.

We therefore started a systematic comparison of 10 MMs3 to more than 100 mind symptoms among the most important 500 essential Kent’s R symptoms.
